Counter-Mapping

Ameera Kawash

I am working on a series exploring painting as a mode of counter-mapping, set against historical and contemporary cartographies of displacement, erasure, and belonging. The work reflects on pattern-making, diasporic map-making, and embroidery, reinterpreting motifs such as the olive tree and keffiyeh.

The square paintings are designed to be a modular series. Photos taken in my studio. To be updated soon!
